The Baramulla Police in Jammu and Kashmir has arrested 343 drug peddlers, including 80 most wanted, during the current year. The police have also attached properties worth crores of rupees belonging to the drug smugglers.
Of the 343 drug peddlers, 213 have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, while 54 have been booked under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act and the Public Safety Act (PSA). The police have also recovered contraband worth crores of rupees from the drug peddlers.
The Baramulla Police has also attached properties worth Rs 2.1 crore belonging to the drug smugglers. This includes three houses, three vehicles, and cash to the tune of Rs 1.2 crore. The properties were attached in the Pattan, Kreeri, Nambla, and Kamalkote areas of the district.
The Baramulla Police has affirmed its commitment to act tough against drug peddlers and to attach their properties. The police have also requested the general public to come forward with information about drug peddlers in their areas. The police have assured that the identity of the informants will be kept confidential.
The crackdown on drug peddlers in Baramulla is a welcome step. It is hoped that the police will continue to take strong action against drug smugglers and dealers in order to rid the society of this menace.
