At least 40 sheep and goats died after lightning struck a meadow in the Banihal area of Ramban district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday evening. The owner of the livestock, however, claimed that he had lost around 80 animals in the incident.
Police and a team of sheep husbandry department officials rushed to the spot after receiving the information. The officials confirmed that 40 sheep and goats had died in the lightning strike.
The incident has caused a huge loss to the livestock owner, who is a shepherd. The government has announced compensation for the loss of livestock.
