6225 pilgrims leave Jammu for Amarnath despite heavy rains

A batch of 6,225 pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp in Jammu on Tuesday for the Shri Amarnath Cave Shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas. The pilgrims, who were chanting “Bam Bam Bhole,” left in a convoy of 217 vehicles.

A group of 3,714 pilgrims (2,790 males, 793 females, 18 children, 101 sadhus and 12 sadhvis) left for Pahalgam in a convoy of 131 vehicles. For Baltal, 2,511 pilgrims comprising (1,545 males, 955 females and seven children and four sadhus) left in a convoy of 86 vehicles.

The yatra, which started on July 1, will conclude on August 31. Security has been beefed up along the route of the yatra in view of the recent terror attacks in Kashmir.
