Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra stated that while an India-Pakistan war carries significant long-term consequences, his party supports the government’s actions against those responsible for the Pahalgam massacre. This statement was made in response to inquiries regarding the Centre’s directive for states to conduct mock drills on May 7, amidst heightened tensions following the April 22 terror attack in Baisaran, which resulted in 26 fatalities.
“War is a serious matter with lasting repercussions. The current situation necessitates government action against terrorism. The Congress party stands with the government in any action deemed in the nation’s best interest,” Karra told reporters.
Regarding the security forces’ anti-terror operations in the Valley, including detentions and the demolition of properties belonging to terror associates, Karra urged the government to exercise caution to prevent harm to innocent civilians. “We have advised the government to proceed carefully and ensure that no innocent individuals are affected,” he said.
On the government’s decision to include a caste enumeration in the upcoming census, Karra attributed this development to Rahul Gandhi’s persistent advocacy. 1 “The cabinet’s approval for the caste census is a source of pride for the Congress. We are pleased that Rahul Gandhi’s consistent efforts compelled the government to approve this measure,” he stated.
