The body of a non-local resident, Surendar Prasad of Babhanauli Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh, was retrieved from the Jhelum River in Sopore, north Kashmir, on Monday morning after a 12-hour rescue operation.
Prasad accidentally drowned in the river at Bohripora area on Sunday evening. A joint team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police launched the rescue operation, which continued late into the night.
The operation resumed on Monday morning, and the body was finally fished out of the river. It has been taken to the hospital for necessary medical and legal formalities.
