On Tuesday, October 10, 2023, the Shopian Senior Superintendent of Police, Tanushree, announced that two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists had been killed in an encounter with security forces in the Alshipora area of Shopian district. The terrorists, Morifat Maqbool and Jazim Farooq alias Abrar, were planning attacks and recruiting people in the area.
Security forces received information about the presence of the terrorists on Monday night and launched a counter-terrorism operation. The encounter broke out at around 7 am on Tuesday and lasted for several hours. Both terrorists were killed in the operation.
SSP Tanushree said that the killing of the two terrorists is a big win for the security forces. She also confirmed that Jazim Farooq alias Abrar was involved in the killing of Kashmiri Pandit Sanjay Sharma in February this year.
The killing of Sanjay Sharma was the first attack on a Kashmiri Pandit since October 2022. In June this year, the State investigative agency (SIA) conducted searches in several areas of South Kashmir in connection with the investigation into his killing.
