The Amarnath Yatra has been suspended for Thursday, July 17, 2025, from both the Pahalgam and Baltal base camps. This decision was made due to two days of incessant heavy rainfall, which has damaged the pilgrimage tracks.
Urgent Restoration Work Underway
The Jammu and Kashmir Information Department announced the suspension, stating that urgent restoration work is needed on the affected tracks. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has deployed a large number of personnel and machinery to complete these repairs. The goal is to finish the work before the yatra can resume from the base camps on July 18, 2025.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri confirmed the suspension, emphasizing the necessity of repair and maintenance due to the continuous rains. He stated, “Therefore, it has been decided that no movement shall be allowed towards the Holy Cave from the two base camps today.”
Pilgrims at Panjtarni Camp Allowed to Descend
While new movements from the base camps are halted, pilgrims who stayed at the Panjtarni camp overnight are being permitted to descend to Baltal. This movement is being managed with adequate deployment of BRO and Mountain Rescue Teams.
Yatra Expected to Resume Tomorrow
The pilgrimage is expected to resume on Friday, July 18, 2025, although this is dependent on the weather conditions. This marks the first time this year that the pilgrimage has been halted for a full day from Jammu.
