The Economic Offences Wing (EoW), previously known as the Crime Branch Kashmir, has arrested Shahid Rehman Bhat, proprietor of M/S AR Trading Agri Services Pvt. Ltd. Bhat, a resident of Shangus, Nowgam Anantnag, is allegedly involved in a multi-crore rupee fraud case. In connection with the ongoing investigation, raids were also carried out at several locations in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The EoW initiated an investigation after receiving numerous written complaints. Victims alleged that Bhat defrauded them by promising high-density apple plants. According to the complaints, Bhat collected substantial sums of money but neither delivered the promised saplings nor returned the funds, subsequently going into hiding.
Evidence from bank transaction details provided by the victims revealed that Bhat had fraudulently obtained crores of rupees from unsuspecting farmers and other complainants.
Bhat’s recent bail application was rejected by the Court of the Additional Sessions Judge, Anantnag.
