The weather in Jammu and Kashmir was harsh on Wednesday, with dense fog and cold temperatures affecting life in the Valley. The minimum temperature in Srinagar and Gulmarg was minus 5 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam recorded a bone-chilling minus 6.3 degrees Celsius. Ladakh region was even colder, with Leh town recording minus 15.2 degrees Celsius and Kargil minus 13.9 degrees Celsius. Jammu city was relatively warmer, with a minimum temperature of 4.8 degrees Celsius. The Met department has forecast generally dry weather in J&K till January 26, with the 40-day period of harsh winter cold known as the ‘Chillai Kalan’ expected to continue until January 30.
