After a prolonged dry spell and minimal snowfall during the harsh “Chillai Kalan” period, Kashmir might finally experience some wintery relief. The weather department predicts occasional light snowfall from January 26th to 31st, potentially ending the dry spell and bringing much-needed precipitation.
While the night temperatures improved slightly across the valley on Saturday, they still remained below freezing. Srinagar saw a rise from -4.9°C to -3.7°C, while tourist hotspots like Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded similar slight increases. Jammu city also experienced a milder night at 5.9°C compared to 5°C the previous night.
The upcoming snowfall, though light, is expected to occur at isolated higher reaches on January 25th. From January 26th to 28th, scattered places across the valley might receive light rain or snow. The most significant snowfall is predicted for January 29th to 31st, with the possibility of light to moderate rain or snow at many locations.
