Srinagar and Jammu experienced a harsh winter grip on Tuesday. While Kashmir continued longing for snowfall, extreme dry cold intensified, with Srinagar recording a minimum temperature of -5°C, Gulmarg at -4.5°C and Pahalgam at a bone-chilling -6.2°C. Leh, in the neighboring Ladakh region, dipped to an even frostier -15°C, while Kargil wasn’t far behind at -11.8°C. In contrast, Jammu city saw a relatively milder 5°C, with Katra at 4.1°C, Batote at 1.6°C, Bhaderwah at -0.4°C and Banihal at -1.8°C. The impending end of the 40-day ‘Chillai Kalan’ period, just seven days away, offered little comfort amidst the persistent cold wave.
