Prime Minister Modi delivered a scathing online address to the All India Presiding Officers’ Conference, criticizing political parties that shield misbehaving members from consequences. He lamented the rise of partisanship over decorum, recalling a time when senior members guided errant colleagues back to respectful conduct within the House. Today, he said, some parties condone and even defend rule-breaking, which undermines the sanctity of Parliament and state legislatures.
Modi outlined positive initiatives like “One Nation, One Legislative Platform” to facilitate digital collaboration and transparency in legislatures. He also cited his government’s progress in streamlining legislation, mentioning the scrapping of 2,000 outdated laws in the past decade. However, his main message resonated with concerns about declining Parliamentary etiquette and the need for responsible behavior from both members and their parties.
