Cold wave conditions gripped Kashmir on Wednesday due to clear skies, with night temperatures remaining several degrees below freezing. The Meteorological Department has predicted dry weather till February 14th.
Srinagar, the capital city, recorded a minimum temperature of -2°C, while Gulmarg, the famous ski resort, dipped to -10°C. Pahalgam, another popular tourist destination, saw an even colder night with a minimum of -10.8°C.
Ladakh, known for its harsh winters, experienced even more extreme temperatures. Leh, the region’s main town, recorded a bone-chilling -16.2°C, while Kargil dipped to an even colder -19.5°C.
Jammu, the winter capital of the Union Territory, witnessed milder temperatures compared to Kashmir and Ladakh. The city recorded a minimum of 5°C, while Katra, the base camp for Vaishno Devi shrine, saw 4.1°C. Other parts of Jammu including Batote, Bhaderwah and Banihal recorded minimum temperatures ranging from -0.4°C to -2°C.
Overall, the cold wave is expected to continue in the region for the next week, with dry weather prevailing. People are advised to take precautions against the cold, such as wearing warm clothing and staying indoors during the coldest hours of the night.
