Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district apprehended a man with a pistol on Monday. The man, identified as Mohd Shabir Anjum, was from the village of Bhatidhar in the Mendhar tehsil.
The arrest took place during a routine checking at the Kunaiyan area near SK bridge. Security personnel from the CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) noticed a suspicious movement and stopped Anjum for questioning. He tried to escape, but was overpowered by the security forces.
A pistol and three live rounds were recovered from Anjum during a frisking. He has been handed over to the police station in Poonch for further investigation.
The arrest is a major success for the security forces in Poonch district. It comes at a time when there is an increased threat of terrorism in the region. The pistol and ammunition recovered from Anjum could have been used for carrying out a terrorist attack.
