Security forces on Saturday launched a search operation in a forested area in the Buflaiz sector of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir after detecting suspicious movement near the Line of Control (LoC).
The search operation was launched by the army and police in Chamrer and Gangna Top around 6 am. The search parties fired a few rounds in the Chamrer forest area on observing some suspicious movement, but there was no retaliation from the other side.
Reinforcements have been rushed to the area for conducting a thorough search operation. The operation is still ongoing.
The officials said that the search operation was launched in the wake of recent terrorist infiltration attempts in the Poonch sector. They said that the forces are on high alert and are taking all necessary measures to thwart any such attempts.
The Poonch district has been a hotbed of terrorist activity in recent years. In June 2023, five soldiers were killed in an encounter with terrorists in the Rajouri district, which is also located along the LoC.
The security forces have been conducting regular search operations in the Poonch and Rajouri districts in order to prevent terrorist infiltration and attacks. The latest search operation is part of these efforts.
