Akhaura-Agartala Rail Link Opens, Boosting India-Bangladesh Connectivity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina jointly inaugurated the projects. Modi said the inauguration of the Agartala-Akhaura Cross Border Rail Link was a “historic” moment, as it is the first rail link between the northeast of India and Bangladesh. Hasina said the three projects would further strengthen the infrastructure development collaboration between the two countries.

The projects are all India-assisted development initiatives. India extended Rs 392.52 crore as grant assistance to Bangladesh for the Agartala-Akhaura Cross Border Rail Link.

The inauguration of the three projects is a significant step in strengthening the relationship between India and Bangladesh. The projects will boost trade and connectivity between the two countries, and help to meet Bangladesh’s growing energy needs.
