Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir – The Jammu and Kashmir Police have implemented multi-layered and in-depth security arrangements for the upcoming annual Amarnath Yatra, which begins on July 3rd. According to Kashmir Police chief V.K. Birdi, these enhanced measures aim to ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage for all devotees.
“Compared to last year, this time there are multi-layered and in-depth security arrangements so as to make the yatra safe and smooth,” said Inspector General of Kashmir Police, V.K. Birdi, during a press briefing in Anantnag. He recently visited the Nunwan base camp along the Pahalgam axis to personally review the security preparedness.
Security for the 38-day pilgrimage has been meticulously planned and divided into various levels, including zonal arrangements. Comprehensive security drills were conducted across all levels on Wednesday, ahead of the yatra’s commencement.
“The aim of the drills is to refine our alertness, and preparedness of our actions and responses at the time of any contingency,” Birdi explained. These drills covered camps, roads, and interior sections along the yatra routes, ensuring all security forces are well-prepared and aware of their specific roles in any unforeseen situation.
Birdi also emphasized the crucial role of local support in the successful conduct of the pilgrimage. “The yatra cannot be conducted without the support of the local population,” he stated, adding that locals are excited to welcome the pilgrims and offer assistance.
In preparation for the yatra, security forces conducted drills in various locations including Pahalgam, Anantnag, Qazigund in south Kashmir, Pantha Chowk in Srinagar, and Sumbal in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
