Following a deadly cloudburst in the remote village of Chasoti, Kishtwar, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached out to the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He took stock of the situation and promised full support from the central government.
Officials confirmed that the disaster claimed at least 12 lives and caused extensive damage. Relief and rescue operations are underway, with NDRF teams promptly dispatched to the site, Shah wrote on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).
The cloudburst occurred between 12 noon and 1 p.m. in Chasoti, a key staging point for the Machail Mata pilgrimage. The incident happened while a large number of people were gathered for the yatra, and there are concerns that the number of casualties could increase.
