Anantnag Police have successfully apprehended three individuals with illegal arms and ammunition following a naka checking operation on Thursday at Krad Ranipora Road.
The operation was a joint effort by Police Station Uttersoo, Special Operations Group (SOG) PC Chittergul, the Army’s 19 RR, and 96 Battalion of CRPF. The team had set up a checkpoint near Panchayat Ghar Krad. During the checking, an Alto 800 vehicle traveling from Kard towards Ranipora was signaled to stop. The driver attempted to flee but was intercepted by the alert naka party, along with the two other occupants.
Upon searching the vehicle and the suspects, arms and ammunition were recovered from each individual. The apprehended individuals have been identified as:
- Waseem Rehman, son of Abdul Rehman Sheikh, from Midoora, Tral, Awantipora.
- Eahsan Akram, son of Muhammad Akram Lone, also from Midoora, Tral, Awantipora.
- Ishfaq Ahmed Bhat, son of Ghulam Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Koil, Pulwama, who was driving the vehicle.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the trio had acquired the arms and ammunition from the banned terrorist outfit LeT and were likely planning to carry out a terror act in the region.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 40/2025 at Police Station Uttersoo, invoking Sections 18, 39, and 23 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and Section 7/25 of the Indian Arms Act. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
