Jammu, 13/June/2025: The Jammu & Kashmir Border Area Development Conference (JK_BADC), a registered organization dedicated to the welfare of border residents and tribal communities across Jammu and Kashmir, expressed deep shock and anguish over the tragic death of a pregnant woman, allegedly due to medical negligence of medical staff of District Hospital Poonch last week.
The unfortunate demise of the lady has once again exposed the alarming state of healthcare infrastructure in the border district Poonch and its adjoining rural and hilly areas. Such incidents are not isolated but represent a systemic failure that has persisted for far too long, leaving the people of this region vulnerable and neglected, the organization alleged .
Dr Shazad Ahmed Malik , the Chairman and former Vice Chancellor strongly demands a time-bound judicial probe into the circumstances that led to this loss of life. He stated “ Only an independent, court-monitored investigation can bring out the facts, ensure transparency, and deliver justice to the affected family. We firmly believe that no innocent person should be punished, but those whose negligence or dereliction of duty resulted in this tragedy must be held accountable under the law”.
The BADC Chairman asserted that the people of Poonch deserve clarity, accountability, and above all, respect for their right to life and quality of healthcare.
He also raised serious concerns about the dismal state of medical facilities across Poonch district, especially in its blocks and tehsils. He pointed out that the border district suffers from acute shortages of qualified doctors, specialist staff, functioning medical equipment, and emergency response systems. Despite repeated pleas over the years, healthcare delivery remains far below acceptable standards.
Offering his condolences to the victim’s family and relatives he said BADC stands in complete solidarity with the grieving families and the residents demanding justice. We urge the government to take immediate corrective measures to strengthen the healthcare system in border areas.
