In a significant effort to combat drug trafficking in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police have apprehended three drug peddlers, including a woman, and seized a large quantity of contraband substances.
Based on intelligence inputs, a police party from Sheeri Police Station, led by SHO PS Sheeri and under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Baramulla, established a checkpoint at Kitchama near Service Station. During routine checks, they intercepted a scooty bearing registration number JK05-0116 carrying two individuals and a woman.
Upon thorough interrogation, the suspects were identified as Riyaz Ahmad Ganie, son of Gh Hassan, and Shokeen Ahmad Ganie, son of Ab Jabar Ganie, both residents of Batangi Boniyar, and Saleema Begum, wife of Mohd Ashraf Najar, resident of Mother Sheeri. A thorough search of their possession revealed a staggering 776 grams of contraband heroin-like substance.
The three apprehended individuals were immediately taken into custody and shifted to PS Sheeri. A case under relevant sections of the law has been registered against them, and an investigation is underway to uncover the extent of their drug trafficking activities.
This operation highlights the unwavering commitment of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to eradicating the menace of drugs from society. The timely interception and arrest of these drug peddlers have effectively disrupted their illicit operations and safeguarded the community from the detrimental effects of substance abuse.
