Day 4 of Chillai Kalan, the harshest 40-day period of winter in Kashmir, brought bone-chilling temperatures across the region. Srinagar recorded a frigid -6.6°C, marking one of the coldest nights this season. Tourist destinations Pahalgam (-7.8°C) and Gulmarg (-1.9°C) experienced severe cold, though Gulmarg offered slightly milder conditions.
South Kashmir remained under a severe cold wave, with Shopian freezing at -8.8°C, the lowest temperature recorded in the Valley. Anantnag and Pulwama both dipped to -8.3°C, while Kulgam recorded -6.7°C.
Other districts experienced similarly harsh conditions: Budgam (-7.0°C), Ganderbal (-6.5°C), Bandipora (-6.4°C), and Baramulla (-6.0°C). Khudwani also registered a low of -7.1°C.
The extreme cold has partially frozen water bodies and created dangerously icy roads, posing significant challenges for residents.
