The body of a 20-year-old non-local man, Mohammad Zubair, was recovered from the Jhelum River near Panzinara area of Shalteng in Srinagar on Tuesday morning after two days.
Zubair, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, had slipped into the river on Sunday while taking a bath. A massive search operation was launched by the police and the locals, but his body could not be found.
On Tuesday morning, his body was finally retrieved from the river. The police said that the body will be handed over to his legal heirs after the completion of medico-legal formalities.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of swimming in the Jhelum River, which is known to be a fast-flowing and treacherous river. The police have urged people to avoid swimming in the river, especially during the monsoon season.
