A 19-year-old girl was found dead at her home in Khansahib area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Tuesday.
The girl was found hanging from the ceiling of her room by her family members. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
A police official said that a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
The body will be handed over to the family after post-mortem.
The cause of death is not yet known, but police said that they are probing all angles, including suicide.
The girl’s death has caused a shock in the area and her family is in a state of grief.
The police have appealed to the people to come forward with any information that could help in the investigation.
