Xi Jinping and Narendra Modi agreed to work on improving China-India relations and maintaining peace and stability in the border areas.
In a conversation on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, Xi Jinping stressed that improving China-India relations is in the interests of both countries and the world. He also said that the two sides should handle the border issue properly to safeguard peace in the border region.
Narendra Modi conveyed India’s concerns about the unresolved issues along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. He stressed that the maintenance of peace and tranquility in the border areas is essential for the normalization of India-China relations.
The two leaders agreed to direct their relevant officials to intensify efforts at expeditious disengagement and de-escalation.
The government of India refers to the eastern Ladakh region as the Western Sector.
