In response to escalating cross-border shelling, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah convened an emergency video conference with Deputy Commissioners of all border districts to assess the situation and ensure preparedness.
The meeting, attended by key administrative officials, focused on the rising tensions along the Line of Control (LOC) and the International Border.
To bolster immediate response capabilities, the Chief Minister authorized the release of Rs 5 crore in Contingency Funds to each border district and Rs 2 crore to other districts. He emphasized prioritizing frontier districts in fund disbursement.
Recognizing the critical need to protect civilian lives, CM Abdullah directed the strengthening of infrastructure, including shelters and bunkers. He also mandated the development of robust evacuation plans and the maintenance of adequate food supplies.
Concerning medical preparedness, he instructed the Health Department to ensure sufficient stocks of essential medical supplies, guarantee the availability of doctors and paramedics, and maintain ample blood supplies in vulnerable areas. Ambulances were ordered to be deployed to affected border districts for swift casualty transport.
Expressing condolences for civilian casualties, the Chief Minister instructed Deputy Commissioners to provide comprehensive assistance to affected families. He also directed the immediate filling of vacant Tehsildar and other officer positions to ensure efficient government response.
Deputy Commissioners briefed the Chief Minister on their districts’ preparedness, confirming readiness for emergency operations and adequate supply stockpiles. They pledged continuous monitoring and communication with the administration.
Finally, CM Abdullah stressed the importance of countering misinformation and urged the public to rely exclusively on verified official sources during this sensitive period.
