The Crime Branch Headquarters in Jammu conducted a specialized awareness program today, aimed at building capacity and educating officers on the newly implemented criminal laws. The event featured a keynote address by Dr. Vidyut Vikas, IRS, Deputy Inspector General of Police, CBI Jammu, who was welcomed by Inspector General of Crime Branch, Dr. Sunil Gupta, IPS, and other senior officials.
Dr. Vikas, a 2008 batch IRS officer with extensive experience at CBI Jammu, provided a comprehensive overview of the new legal provisions. He shared insights into the CBI’s professional operations, emphasizing the critical role of standardized investigative practices, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and a victim-centric approach in contemporary policing. He stressed that the core objective of the new criminal laws is to deliver justice to citizens, transcending mere punitive measures.
The session was attended by senior officers including Abdul Qayoom, DIG Crime; Benam Tosh, SSP EOW; Yaseen Kitchloo, SSP CICE; Layeeq Ahmed, Joint Director Prosecution; and Amarjeet, SO to IGP. Discussions centered on the necessity of adopting a citizen-focused investigative strategy that aligns with evolving policing standards. Notable points included the new provision for trials in absentia, enabling prosecution of absconding individuals, and the efficient utilization of digital tools such as e-Saksh and e-Summon for expedited justice delivery.
