The Crime Branch Srinagar has filed a chargesheet against two persons, including one who is absconding, for cheating and fraud. The accused persons are Brij Nath Bhat and Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh.
The case dates back to 2021, when the complainant and his brother approached Brij Nath Bhat to purchase a plot of land in Srinagar. Bhat, along with his associate Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, entered into an agreement to sell the plot to the complainants for Rs. 47.2 lakh. The complainants transferred the money to Bhat’s bank account, but he failed to transfer the land to them.
The complainants then approached the Crime Branch Kashmir, which registered a case and launched an investigation. The investigation revealed that Bhat and Sheikh had no right over the land and had duped the complainants.
Based on the evidence collected during the investigation, the Crime Branch filed a chargesheet against Bhat and Sheikh in the Court of Judge Small Causes Srinagar. Bhat is absconding, but a chargesheet has been filed against him in absentia.
A “Hue and Cry” notice has also been published in newspapers to facilitate in tracing out the absconding accused Brij Nath Bhat.
The chargesheet filed by the Crime Branch Srinagar is a significant development in the case. It shows that the investigation has been thorough and that there is a strong case against the accused persons. The chargesheet will now be heard by the court, which will decide whether to issue warrants for the arrest of the absconding accused and whether to proceed with the trial.
