The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Saturday inducted the Wheeled Armoured Amphibious Platform (WhAP) vehicles in the Kashmir Valley. The vehicles are designed for both land and water operations, and will add to the CRPF’s operational capabilities in the region.
Two WhAP vehicles have been deployed in south Kashmir to aid anti-militancy operations. The vehicles are 8-by-8, state-of-the-art platforms that boast contemporary features, optimised ergonomics, modular ballistic protection, and can carry 10 troops and a driver.
The WhAP vehicles have undergone complex tests before being inducted. They are fully bulletproof and mine protected, and can move in rivers against the waves. They also have an automated tyre-inflation system, a remote-control weapon system (RCWS) to fire medium machine guns, and an automatic grenade launcher.
The WhAP vehicles are a significant addition to the CRPF’s arsenal in Kashmir. They will provide a tactical advantage to the force in anti-militancy operations, allowing them to launch assaults while sitting inside the bulletproof vehicles.
A CRPF jawan, Pratap Singh, said that the WhAP vehicles have “very advanced technology” and will help the force get closer to targets where terrorists are holed up.
The induction of the WhAP vehicles is a boost to the CRPF’s operational capabilities in Kashmir. The vehicles will play a significant role in the force’s fight against terrorism in the region.
