A woman from Delhi, Jyoti Gupta, was arrested at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine after a loaded pistol was found in her possession. Gupta, who claimed to be a retired police constable, was stopped at a checkpoint near the shrine’s sanctum on the night of March 14-15. Officials discovered her gun license had expired several years prior. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
This incident follows a similar occurrence on March 14, where Sanjay Singh, a pilgrim from Uttar Pradesh, was booked after two live cartridges were discovered in his bag near the same location.
