DGP Dilbagh Singh said that Jammu and Kashmir is moving towards becoming a terror-free region. He added that the number of terrorists is very low and the police are working to eradicate the remnants of terrorism.
The DGP also said that the police will now take on the challenge of drug abuse and narco-smuggling. He said that Sopore, which was once known as a hotbed of militancy, is now peaceful and there is a smile on the faces of people.
Singh said that the next challenge after terrorism is drug smuggling. He assured that the police are committed to making Jammu and Kashmir a drug-free place.
Responding to a query about the deaths of two Sikh community members in Baramulla and Tral, the DGP said that these are general incidents and there is no need to worry. He said that the police have taken cognizance of both incidents and are investigating them.
The DGP also said that all arrangements are in place for the Panchayat polls and the police will ensure smooth polls as and when they are held.
