At the two-day National Tribal Festival Gurez-2025, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reaffirmed his government’s dedication to developing the Gurez region. Speaking at the valedictory function in the village of Chorwan, Abdullah emphasized that Gurez is a top priority for his government.
Abdullah praised the people of Gurez for their resilience and commitment to peace. He also highlighted the government’s efforts to improve mobile network coverage in the area, aiming to connect Gurez with the rest of the country.
Acknowledging Gurez’s tourism potential, the Chief Minister urged residents to keep the valley clean and pollution-free. He stressed that development and progress must be balanced with preserving the region’s natural beauty, heritage, and culture. Abdullah believes that expanding tourism will create employment opportunities for the youth.
During his visit, the Chief Minister toured various stalls showcasing local products and handicrafts. He also distributed certificates of appreciation to women-led Self Help Groups for their entrepreneurial efforts. The festival featured cultural performances from across India, including Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat.
Abdullah also inaugurated a polo match and flagged off a trekking group to promote Gurez’s adventure tourism. As part of a green initiative, he planted saplings at the Tourist Reception Centre.
Earlier, the Chief Minister held a grievance redressal camp where residents voiced concerns about road and mobile connectivity, educational facilities, banking services, and employment. Abdullah listened to their issues and assured them of timely action, stating that his government is committed to addressing the hardships faced by the people of Gurez.
