Jammu: Vikram Singh, General Secretary of Lok Jan Shakti Party, Jammu and Kashmir, has called on the government to extend the summer vacations for schools in the Jammu region in light of the ongoing extreme heat wave. With temperatures soaring, he emphasized the urgent need to prioritize the well-being of students.
“Schools are currently operating under conditions that are unsuitable for learning. A classroom of 30 to 40 students is expected to function under a single fan, which is inadequate given the severe heat. It is crucial that we provide a conducive environment for our children,” he stated in a statement issued here today.
Vikram pointed out the inconsistency in the government’s approach to school vacations, noting that if summer vacations are extended for up to three months in the Kashmir division due to extreme winters, a similar approach should be taken for the Jammu region during the summer months. “The health and safety of our children should be our top priority. Just as we recognize the harsh winter conditions in Kashmir, we must also acknowledge the unbearable heat in Jammu,” he added.
The General Secretary urged the government to take immediate action to extend the summer vacations to safeguard students from the adverse effects of high temperatures. He stressed that forcing children to attend school under such oppressive conditions is neither acceptable nor justifiable.
The senior LJSP leader called on parents, educators, and community leaders to unite to ensure that our children are not subjected to harmful conditions that impede their learning and overall health.
