Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi has convened a meeting of the floor leaders of all political parties on September 17, a day before the start of a five-day special session of Parliament. The invitation for the meeting has been sent to all concerned leaders through e-mail.
Joshi had announced the special session on August 31, but did not specify any agenda for it. Speculations have been rife about the possible topics that could be discussed in the session, including the women’s reservation bill, the uniform civil code, and simultaneous polls. It is also expected that the Parliament proceedings will move from the old building to the new one during this session.
The opposition parties have criticized the government for not spelling out the agenda of the session even with just a few days left for its commencement. They have demanded that the government clarify the agenda so that they can prepare their responses accordingly.
