“A severe storm, featuring heavy rains and high-velocity winds, struck Jammu district and surrounding areas Wednesday evening, causing significant damage, particularly to the power grid. The storm, which began around 7:40 PM, resulted in widespread power outages across major sections of Jammu city, including Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Canal Road, and outlying areas.
The high winds uprooted billboards, tin roofs, electrical poles, and trees, also damaging vehicles in numerous locations. Power restoration efforts continued late into the evening, with many areas still without electricity. Reports also indicated a portion of the Civil Secretariat’s sidewall collapsed near Dogra Hall, damaging parked vehicles, and a mobile tower fell in the Bagh-e-Bahu region.
Power Development Department (PDD) officials confirmed they were working to restore power, noting that a full assessment of the damage was necessary.
