Mehbooba Mufti, leader of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), called for de-escalation between India and Pakistan following the April 22nd Pahalgam attack. She expressed concern on X that the incident had brought the two nations “dangerously close to the edge of catastrophe.”
Mufti emphasized the human cost of the conflict, stating, “The tragic loss of innocent lives, including women and children on both sides, is a stark and heartbreaking reminder.” She asserted that a military solution was not viable, and only increased suffering would result.
She urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to prioritize dialogue, advocating for “peaceful coexistence & engagement” as the sole means to resolve the situation. “Only through sincere and sustained efforts can we de-escalate tensions and begin the hard work of restoring peace,” she concluded.
