The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is gearing up for the soft landing of its Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft on the Moon on August 23. However, the landing may be postponed to August 27 if the health parameters of the lander module are found to be abnormal.
The lander module will attempt to land on the Moon’s surface from a height of 30 kilometers. At that time, its velocity will be 1.68 kilometers per second. The scientists will focus on reducing the speed of the spacecraft in order to prevent a crash landing.
If any health parameter of the lander module is found to be abnormal on August 23, the landing will be postponed to August 27.
ISRO said that the mission is on schedule and the spacecraft is in good health. The systems are undergoing regular checks and everything is going smoothly.
The soft landing of the Chandrayaan-3 lander module would put India in the elite club of countries that have achieved the feat of reaching the Moon’s surface. Only the United States, the erstwhile Soviet Union, and China have successfully landed on the Moon before.
