The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) released a video on Friday of the Chandrayaan-3 mission’s rover, Pragyan, rolling down from the lander, Vikram, to the lunar surface. The video was captured by the lander imager camera.
ISRO also released an image of the lander taken by Chandrayaan-2’s Orbiter High Resolution Camera (OHRC). The image shows the lander after it soft-landed on the Moon’s surface.
The Vikram lander touched down on the Moon’s surface on Wednesday, along with the Pragyan rover. The rover rolled out from the lander a few hours later.
ISRO said that all systems are normal and that the rover’s mobility operations have commenced. The lander’s payloads have also been turned on.
India is only the fourth country to achieve a soft-landing on the Moon, and the first to do so on the uncharted south pole. The Chandrayaan-3 mission is a major milestone for India’s space program and will help scientists learn more about the Moon.
