A 1988-batch IPS officer from Manipur, Anish Dayal Singh has been named the new Director General (DG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He will be taking over from incumbent S L Thaosen, who retires on November 30. Singh will hold the position of CRPF DG until a new regular incumbent is appointed or until further orders, whichever comes first.
Thaosen, who is also from the 1988-batch of the IPS, but has a Madhya Pradesh cadre, was appointed CRPF DG in October last year. Singh, at the same time, was given the responsibility of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) DG.
With about 3.25 lakh personnel, the CRPF is the country’s largest central armed police force. It is deployed for various tasks in India’s internal security domain, including anti-Naxal operations.
The ITBP, which has about 90,000 personnel, is primarily responsible for guarding the 3,488 km long Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.
