Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited security forces in Uri on Friday to review the security situation in the area. Following his assessment, Lt Governor Sinha reassured the public that the J-K administration is committed to minimizing any disruption to their lives amidst the rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
Speaking to the media, Sinha stated, “Attempts were made (by Pakistan)…Indian armed forces are ready to deal with any kind of situation. J&K administration is ensuring that people here don’t face any inconvenience. I visited villages in the border areas that suffered losses.”
He also mentioned that the administration is providing financial assistance to those affected by the recent events. “The injured and the families of those who died have been given ex-gratia. The loss is being ascertained…there will be a need for new bunkers, so in the coming days, that will be built too,” Sinha added.
These developments follow a series of coordinated drone and missile attacks launched by Pakistan along India’s western border on Thursday night, targeting regions in Jammu and Kashmir, and Rajasthan. Indian defence officials reported that the majority of these attacks were successfully intercepted by India’s air defence systems, including the S-400 missile defence system, thus preventing significant damage.
In Poonch, a local residence sustained damage due to Pakistani shelling. The homeowner expressed gratitude towards the Indian armed forces for their dedication to protecting citizens during these heightened tensions, saying, “I can’t understand what Pakistan thinks and does. This is not humanity. If Pakistan won’t understand now, then what will it? If it weren’t for our Armed Forces, we wouldn’t have been able to sleep peacefully at night.”
Tragically, a Hanuman Temple in Poonch was also damaged in the shelling. A local resident condemned Pakistan for targeting religious sites, stating, “Pakistan army is targeting religious places in poonch, gurudwara, masajid, temples, this is very bad he said we are stand with Indian army and government of india.”
Reports suggest that Pakistan’s actions were in response to India’s Operation Sindoor, which took place earlier in the week and targeted terrorist camps within Pakistan following a devastating terrorist attack in Kashmir on April 22 that resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists.
The situation remains tense, and there have been international appeals for de-escalation and diplomatic efforts to prevent further conflict.
