Following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22nd, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, including a Nepalese citizen, and left many others injured, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have intensified their efforts to counter terrorism.
This morning, the Jammu and Kashmir police conducted extensive raids at 13 locations across the Doda district. The operation aimed to dismantle terrorist hideouts and take action against individuals with suspected links to terror activities.
In a separate operation, the Srinagar Police carried out widespread searches at the residences of 63 individuals in Srinagar. These individuals are believed to be Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and terrorist associates of banned terrorist organizations. The searches were part of ongoing investigations into cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
According to a police statement, the Srinagar searches were conducted following due legal procedures, with Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses present, and under the supervision of J&K Police officers. The objective of these searches was to seize weapons, documents, and digital devices to gather evidence and intelligence aimed at preventing future terrorist conspiracies and activities that could threaten national security.
Meanwhile, the impact of the Pahalgam attack is being felt in the tourism sector. Rakesh Wazir, president of the Hotel and Restaurant Association in Katra, reported a significant drop in tourist arrivals and bookings in the Jammu region. He stated that approximately 35 to 37 percent of bookings have been cancelled. Wazir also noted a decrease in the number of pilgrims for the yatra, from an expected 45,000 to around 20,000-22,000.
The deadly attack in Baisaran meadow, Pahalgam, has not only heightened security concerns within the region but has also intensified diplomatic responses between neighboring countries as the nation grieves the loss of life.
