Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar today held a press conference to address concerns about the accuracy of smart meters in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the government is committed to ensuring that the meters are accurate and that consumers are not overcharged.
Kumar said that the government has taken a number of steps to address concerns about smart meters, including:
- Installing check meters (old digital meters in parallel to smart meters) to verify the readings.
- Setting up a dedicated grievance redressal cell.
- Allowing smart meters to be installed on the wall of consumers if suitable conditions are met.
- Constituting a committee to receive grievances and redress them at the earliest.
Kumar also clarified that prepaid meters are not yet being installed in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the government is still in the process of testing and evaluating the technology.
He urged consumers to cooperate with the government and to report any problems they encounter with smart meters.
ADGP Mukesh Singh Updates on Toll Plaza Concerns
In a separate press conference, Additional Director General of Police Mukesh Singh updated the media on the government’s efforts to address concerns about the toll plazas in Jammu and Kashmir.
Singh said that a team from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to visit the affected areas within the next two days. The team will assess the condition of the road and will provide valuable insights and solutions.
Singh also said that the Chief Secretary has led discussions with NHAI officials and that swift actions are being taken to address the concerns of the people.
He urged the people to cooperate with the government and to avoid resorting to any kind of violence.
The government is committed to resolving the issues related to smart meters and the toll plazas in a timely and transparent manner.
