Jammu Police have successfully dismantled a sophisticated vehicle theft ring operating across multiple districts, leading to four arrests so far. The Miran Sahib Police Station, led by Inspector Jai Paul Sharma and ASI Pintoo Kumar, and supervised by SDPO R S Pura and SP Headquarters Jammu, spearheaded the operation.
The module specialized in stealing vehicles, then dismantling them and selling the parts as scrap. An investigation began after FIR No. 94/2025 was filed on July 15, 2025, under Section 303(2) BNS at Miran Sahib Police Station.
Swift police action, utilizing intelligence and CCTV analysis, led authorities to a dismantling operation in Meen Charka, Bari Brahmana. There, the alleged mastermind, Mohammad Younis, son of Mohammad Sharif of Smailpur Kothri, had established a tin-covered shed for these illegal activities.
Younis’s gang included:
- Bikram Singh alias Bikki, R/o Simbal Camp (arrested)
- Mohammad Yaqoob, R/o Bari Khad, Bari Brahmana (arrested)
- Zakir Hussain, R/o Kralpora, Handwara (arrested)
- Mohammad Hassan alias Raju, R/o Ragura Majheen (absconding)
- Sukhwinder Kumar alias Billa, R/o Bansultan, Miran Sahib (absconding)
The gang recently stole a truck (JK02AE-7469) from Basti Govindpur, Simbal Morh. The vehicle was dismantled and loaded into a Tata Mobile bearing suspicious dual registration numbers: JK02E-8809 and JK02V-5762. Police are currently verifying the authenticity of the engine and chassis numbers.
Two additional individuals, Mohit, a scrap dealer, and Sajad Hussain, brother of the main accused, who purchased scrap parts from the stolen truck, have also been implicated and are currently at large.
Authorities have recovered some parts from the stolen truck, with further recovery operations ongoing. Jammu Police have reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling organized crime networks and bringing all offenders to justice, with more arrests anticipated.
