The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) celebrated a major milestone in the construction of National Highway-144A, connecting Akhnoor and Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir. The Sungal Tunnel, a critical link spanning 2.79 kilometers, achieved a breakthrough, signifying significant progress on the project.
This tunnel is part of the “Golden Arc Road,” a strategically important 200-kilometer stretch that links south Kashmir and the Jammu region to western Jammu and Kashmir. It serves as a vital connection for the border districts of Akhnoor, Rajouri, and Poonch.
Lt. General Raghu Srinivasan, Director General of Border Roads, attended the breakthrough ceremony. He highlighted the project’s importance in enhancing regional connectivity and streamlining transportation along the National Highway.
This achievement follows the January 2024 breakthrough of the Naushera Tunnel, another key milestone on the National Highway. With construction progressing steadily, the entire project is expected to be completed by 2026.
Lt. General Srinivasan emphasized BRO’s commitment to connecting remote areas with major centers in the Jammu-Poonch region. The rapid progress on this link assures its completion within the next few years.
He also addressed queries regarding defense infrastructure along the Line of Control (LoC). BRO remains dedicated to continuously strengthening border defense by constructing and upgrading strategic roads.
