The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Jammu and Kashmir arrested a special grade constable, Sudesh Kumar, on Wednesday for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe. Kumar, who was posted as Naib Courty in the court of Munsiff in Mahanpur, was apprehended for soliciting an illegal gratification of Rs 8,000.
The arrest followed a complaint lodged with the ACB, stating that Kumar had demanded Rs 10,000 to prevent the filing of an appeal against an acquittal order in a case before the Kathua court. After negotiations, he agreed to accept Rs 8,000.
The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the ACB. A discreet verification confirmed Kumar’s demand, prompting the registration of a case and the initiation of an investigation.
An ACB team successfully laid a trap, catching Kumar red-handed while he was demanding and accepting the bribe amount from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. He was immediately arrested, and the bribe money was recovered from his possession. Authorities are currently conducting searches at Kumar’s residence as the investigation continues.
