J&K Government Makes Vehicle Ownership Transfer Easier with e-Sign

The Transport Department of Jammu and Kashmir has launched a new online module for the transfer of vehicle ownership. The module allows both buyers and sellers to electronically sign the required legal documents using their Aadhaar-registered mobile numbers. This makes the process of transferring vehicle ownership much easier and eliminates the need for buyers and sellers to visit the Motor Vehicle Department’s offices in person.

Previously, buyers and sellers had to download application forms, fill them manually on the portal, upload them back, and submit the physical copies at the Transport Department’s offices. Now, with the new module, Form 29 and Form 30 are automatically generated by fetching relevant information from the Vahan and Aadhaar databases.

If the buyer and seller opt for the e-sign method of application, they no longer need to upload additional documents such as a sale deed and address proof. Additionally, the processing of applications used to take weeks or even months, but with the e-sign method, it now takes hours or even minutes, as all relevant data is fetched from the Vahan and Aadhaar databases, eliminating the need for further verification by Motor Vehicle Department officials.

The new module is a significant step towards increasing ease of doing business with the government and eliminating opportunities for corruption. It is also a major convenience for buyers and sellers of vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir.
