J&K Government To Fill 7,253 Vacant Posts By Year-End, Says CM Omar Abdullah

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah detailed the government’s efforts to address vacancies and streamline recruitment within Jammu & Kashmir. Key points included:

  • Current Vacancy Status:
    • As of January 31, 2025, there were 32,474 total vacancies across 38 government departments:
      • 2,503 Gazetted posts
      • 19,214 Non-Gazetted posts
      • 10,757 Class-IV (MTS) posts
  • Targeted Recruitment:
    • The government aims to fill 7,253 vacancies by the end of the year:
      • 1,502 Gazetted vacancies
      • 5,751 Non-Gazetted vacancies
    • In the past two years, 11,526 selections have already been made.
  • Recruitment Process:
    • 13,466 Non-Gazetted vacancies were referred to the J&K Services Selection Board (JKSSB), with 9,351 selections completed.
    • 2,390 Gazetted vacancies were referred to the J&K Public Service Commission (JKPSC), resulting in 2,175 selections.
    • 10,757 Class-IV (MTS) vacancies are undergoing Finance Department scrutiny before referral.
    • Over 6,000 additional vacancies are prepared for referral to recruiting agencies.
  • Reforms for Efficiency:
    • Interviews have been abolished for posts up to Pay Level 5 and Level 6, accelerating recruitment.
    • The JKSSB’s mandate has been expanded to include Non-Gazetted recruitment in PSUs and other state-controlled entities.
    • The JKSSB regulations were revised to introduce online, CBT-based examinations and single-exam systems.
    • The Deadline for notifying recruitment rules has been extended by six months, for the removal of delays.
  • Specific Recruitment Updates:
    • Recruitment for Junior Engineer (Civil) posts, Assistant Professors/Librarians/PTIs, and vacancies in Health and Medical Education is underway.
    • Lecturer posts in the School Education Department have been referred to JKPSC.
  • Regularization of Daily Wagers:
    • A high-level committee, led by the Chief Secretary, has been formed to develop a comprehensive policy for the regularization of Casual, Seasonal, and Other Workers (CSLWs).
  • Emphasis on Proactive Approach:
    • The JKPSC and JKSSB have been directed to adopt a target-based approach to ensure timely recruitment.
