The Pulwama Special Court ordered the attachment of a terrorist associate’s house in Awantipora. The order was carried out by the Awantipora Police and the territorial Magistrate in the presence of village elders and respectables.
The house owner, Azad Ahmad Teeli, was arrested in relation to FIR No 58/2020 of PS Awantipora and charged under Section 19 of the UAPA for intentionally harboring (providing shelter) two slain terrorists, including the then self-styled chief commander of the outlawed terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen Reyaz Naikoo @ zubair-Ul-Islam.
The house was attached under Section 33 of the UAPA, which mandates attachment proceedings even after the charge sheet is submitted, if not done during the investigation. This is the first time the J&K Police has taken such action in a case of this kind.
The police are once again urging citizens not to harbor or give shelter to terrorists, as failing to do so will result in legal action, including the attachment of movable and immovable property. If terrorists forcibly or coercively enter a home or vehicle, the matter should be reported to the police immediately; otherwise, legal action, including seizure or attachment of such property, will be taken.
