In a crackdown on black marketing, the Budgam Police seized 8 quintals (800 kg) of rice meant for government ration depots and arrested four individuals on Friday.
The police intercepted a load carrier at a checkpoint near Arath Crossing. Upon questioning, the occupants, identified as Nisar Ahmad Lone, Ab Qayoom Bhat, Ab Majid Wani, and Ghulam Nabi Wani, confessed to purchasing the rice from a fair shop in Arath owned by the latter.
A search of the vehicle revealed 16 sacks containing 50 kg of rice each. Further investigation revealed the rice was intended for illegal resale.
All four individuals were arrested, and the vehicle used in the crime was seized. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law at the Budgam Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
