Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC, Kargil, visited Zojilla Pass on Friday to inspect the ongoing snow clearance operations. He praised the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and its workers for their dedicated efforts in challenging weather conditions, providing them with cash incentives and blankets as a token of appreciation.
BRO officials reported steady progress, clearing approximately 1 km of snow daily. They anticipate reaching Zero Point by the end of the day and opening the pass for vehicular traffic within 4-5 days, facilitating the flow of essential supplies from Srinagar to Kargil.
Dr. Akhoon also visited the eastern portal of the Zojilla Tunnel, where he was informed that only 2.3 km of tunneling work remains. He commended the workers for their resilience in harsh conditions and pledged continued support for the project’s timely completion.
The CEC was accompanied by key officials, including Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse; Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kargil, Shree Ram R; Chief Engineer, Project Vijayak, Brigadier Rahul Oberoi; and other district and BRO representatives.
